BETTER BEDTIMES ♥ BRIGHTER TOMORROWS

Getting started

How does Sova Stories work?

You tell us a little about your child: their name, age, what they love, and anything on their mind. Every night at the time you choose, Wonder the Owl™ delivers a brand-new bedtime story written just for them, by email or text message. You read it aloud; short shaded notes show you how to read it, and the calming story does the rest.

How does the free trial work?

Every new account gets a 3-day free trial with no card needed. Stories arrive every night of the trial. To keep them coming afterwards, choose a plan in Billing. If you don't, stories simply stop; you're never charged without subscribing.

Which plan is right for us?

One Dreamer ($7/month + tax) is for one child. Growing Family ($12/month + tax) covers up to 4 children sharing one family story each night. The Whole Nest ($24/month + tax) covers up to 4 children, each with their own story every night. Both include extended family and friends as characters and the Story Library for re-reading and reprinting every story.

You can switch plans anytime from Billing.

How old should my child be?

Sova Stories is written for children ages 2 to 12 who love being read to at bedtime. Each story is shaped to your child's age: a 3-year-old's story is short, simple and full of gentle repetition, while a 10-year-old's is a longer adventure with real stakes.

Who reads the story?

You do. Sova Stories is made to be read aloud by a parent or caregiver. Children never have their own account or log in.

Stories & bedtime

What are the shaded notes in each story?

They tell you, the reader, how to read the next part. There's nothing to memorize: each note says exactly what to do, and pauses are written into the words with ellipses and line breaks. You'll see notes like these:

  • Speed: slow down and let the words stretch out.
  • Rhythm: give your voice a steady, rocking beat.
  • Dream Words: linger on the sleepiest phrases.
  • Countdown: count slower and quieter as the numbers go down. A number out of order is fine.
  • Touch: if your child enjoys it, let your fingertips drift lightly over their hair and shoulders. Always optional.
  • Volume: lower your voice, sometimes to a whisper.

Learn more in What Makes Sova Stories Different.

Can I skip a night?

Yes. On the Tonight tab, press Skip tonight, or choose a range of nights to pause (up to 90). Your billing doesn't change. For a longer break, pause billing for 1 to 3 months from Billing.

My story didn't arrive. What should I do?

A few things to check:

  • Look in your spam, junk or promotions folder, and add hello@sovastories.com to your contacts.
  • Check your delivery time and time zone on the Delivery tab.
  • Make sure tonight isn't paused, and that you have at least one child profile.
  • If your trial ended, choose a plan in Billing.

Still missing? Contact us and we'll sort it out.

Is a story ever upsetting or not right for my child?

We work hard to keep every story gentle and age-appropriate (see Story Safety). If anything in a story doesn't feel right, please tell us. We read every report.

Child profiles

How do I add or change a child's details?

Go to the Children tab, change any details, and press Save profiles. Changes shape the very next story.

Do I need to update my child's age every year?

No. Ages go up by one automatically each year, so stories grow with your child. Add a Birthday month on the Children tab and the age changes in that month; otherwise it changes on the anniversary of when you entered it. When it does, a note in your account reminds you to check interests, friends and pets too. You can correct an age any time.

How do I add another child?

Growing Family and The Whole Nest include up to 4 children; press Add a child on the Children tab. On One Dreamer, the same button lets you upgrade first.

How do I delete my child's information?

On the Children tab, choose Remove. This permanently deletes that child's profile and every story written for them, including family stories they were in. We do this to protect your child's privacy, so download any stories you want to keep first.

Email, text & story format

Can I get stories by text message?

Yes. On the Delivery tab choose Text message, or Email and text, add your mobile number, and agree to receive texts. Each text has a link to read the story on your phone. Reply STOP anytime to stop texts. See our SMS Terms.

Can I make the words bigger?

Yes. Stories you read on screen can be made bigger or smaller with the A− and A+ buttons in the reader, or with your phone or computer's own zoom.

Can I get a printable version?

Yes. On the Delivery tab, choose Printable PDF or Both under Story format. Printable pages have a wide margin and punch guides, made to collect in a 3-ring binder.

Story Library & printing

Where can I find past stories?

In your Story Library. On Growing Family and The Whole Nest you can read any past story again, mark favorites, and print or save any story as a PDF. On One Dreamer, your stories are saved and you can read the latest one; upgrading unlocks the rest.

How do I print a story?

Open the story in your Story Library and press Download PDF for a printable page with a hole-punch margin, page numbers and the shaded reading notes. You can also press Print to print straight from your browser.

Billing & plans

Why is there tax on my bill?

Prices are shown before sales tax. Depending on where you live, sales tax is added at checkout and shown on every receipt.

How do I cancel?

Go to Billing and untick Automatic renewal. That's it. Stories continue until the end of the month you've paid for, and you can change your mind anytime before then. See our Refund Policy.

What happens if my payment doesn't go through?

Don't worry: stories keep coming while our payment provider tries your card again over the next few days. We'll let you know by email (and by text, if you get stories by text) so you can update your card in Billing. If the payment still can't be processed after several tries, stories pause until the card is updated. Your profiles and stories stay saved.

How do I update my card or see receipts?

In Billing, choose Manage billing to open our secure Stripe billing page.

Can I delete my whole account?

Your account stays in place if you cancel, so it's easy to come back. If you'd like your account and personal information deleted, email privacy@sovastories.com and we'll take care of it. You can always delete a child's information yourself (see above).

Privacy & safety

What do you do with my child's information?

We use it only to write and deliver your child's stories. We never sell it or use it for advertising. Read our Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy Notice.

Who writes the stories?

Stories are written by AI, following the Sova Method™ and our story-safety guidelines. Learn more on our Story Safety page.

Is Sova Stories a treatment for sleep problems?

No. Sova Stories uses calming storytelling techniques to make bedtime easier, but it isn't medical or psychological treatment. If you're worried about your child's sleep, please talk with your pediatrician.
